It is situated in the Loire Valley close to Chateau de Chenonceau, Amboise and Montrichard in main farm buildings at Vrigny, with a courtyard, large sitting room with open fireplace, dining room; kitchen and utility room; two minutes from lovely vineyards walks and from the river Cher. Five minutes from the village shops on St. Georges sur Cher.

Maison de la Grandmere at Vrigny

Maison de la Grandmère, our lovely charming restored cottage with three bedrooms, two 'en suite' plus a shower room and two more toilets is situated near the vineyards in the beautiful Loire Valley just 10 minutes drive from the famous Chateau de Chenonceau.  This lovely cottage was the original farmhouse occupied by the grandmother, typical of several found in the village, and orginally there was only one room and a stable with 'grenier' or grain loft above, and a large 'Grange' or barn in the corner where wine was made.

We have restored the interior to the highest quality whilst retaining the original features, and creating two 'en suite' double bedrooms and a twin room..

Our cottages are situated in the heart of chateau country in the Loire Valley, valley of the French Kings.  We are well placed for visiting these wonderful historic castles;  favourites include Chenonceau (just a short drive or cycle ride), Amboise, Blois, Chambord, Chaumont and Cheverny, and west of Tours, Villandry, Ussé, Azay-le-Rideau..

This cottage is suitable for 2 or 3 couples with or without children.

  • Sleeps 4 - 6 adults and 2 children plus baby
  • Three bedrooms - two double (both with 'en suite' bathroom with bath / tub) and one with two single / twin beds (can be zipped together to form a double)
  • Cot and other baby equipment available if required
  • Living room with open fireplace, settee and armchairs, TV / video and radio-cassette
  • Kitchen / Dining Room with large pine dining table and chairs
  • Well fitted kitchen with electric hob and oven, microwave and dishwasher
  • Separate Utility Room with washing machine and large fridge freezer
  • Modern shower room, 2 separate WCs one fitted with wash basin, mirror and razor point
  • Garden furniture and shared BBQ
  • Bicycles available (shared with other cottages)

Living Room - Maison de la Grandmere

The living room has a large open fireplace, a bed settee and two arm chairs, and a round table and chairs. The picture window opens onto the terrace.

We are in the centre of the Touraine wine growing region;  our local wines are the Gamay grape, Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.  We are close to Vouvray renowned for its dry and sweet wines made with the Chenin grape.  We are also within an hour’s drive of Chinon, Saumur and Bourgeuil renowned for their Cabernet Franc.  Chinon is particularly interesting with its mediaeval streets and it was the site of the very first French Parliament.Visit Sancerre and Pouilly only a two hour drive by motorway and across country from the mediaeval city of Bourges, itself famous for its Cathedral.

Well, thanks to your fantastic cottages I'm a local hero. My family had a perfect time in Vrigny - the weather was perfect. Sunny enough to sight-see but punctuated by rolling storms which made playing cards by the fireplace ridiculously idyllic. The bikes were a great touch too. What great countryside, grapes were being harvested, the leaves were turning and leaving flames of bright yellow and red across the green hillsides. Sight!! I hope we find ourselves in Touraine again sometime - Jenni

We all agreed this was the most relaxing October week holiday we could remember - the weather was kind too. What a lovely location Vrigny is and ideal for exploring the Cher/Indre/Loire area. Bikes were much appreciated as was all your information. Thank you - Anne

Dear Ann
Another week in Vrigny;  we were able to watch the harvest, sample a few grapes.....and wine and enjoy some warm afternoons.  we managed the occasional internet connection, but it was sometimes unavailable which was good!  Hopefully speak again soon for another Vrigny fix.  Best wishes, Sue 26.9.10
